Part of Calgary’s History
Less than a ten-minute drive from downtown and on the Bow River, Rouge occupies, the historic Cross House in Inglewood.
Inglewood is Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood, established adjacent to Fort Calgary in 1875. 9th Avenue South East, formerly named Atlantic Avenue, became the Calgary’s first authentic main street. Today, Inglewood is a vibrant, eclectic and ever-evolving arts and culture district with more than one hundred shops, boutiques and eateries.
Built in 1891 by A.E. Cross, the Brewery House was home to the Cross family for decades and is now designated as a Calgary, Municipal and Alberta Provincial Heritage Site.
Cross was one of the West’s most prominent cattlemen. In 1892 he founded the Calgary Brewing and Malting Co., the first brewing company in western Canada. He was one of the city’s “Big Four”, one of the original founders of The Calgary Stampede
