ABOUT
A Therapist Who Cares
My mission is to help properly educate my clients in the understanding of long term benefits and overall well being over temporary or short term benefits. This includes working passed the superficial tissues to treat the deeper tissues where most underlying issues arise from.

I work with each client to find a plan through assessment, evaluation and treatment that works best for them to reach their goals!

TREATMENTS
DEEP TISSUE
Deep tissue massage isn’t just a Swedish massage with deeper strokes or harder pressure. Deep tissue massages use firm pressure and slow stroked to massage deep layers of muscle and fascia, which is the connective tissue that surrounds your muscles.

Deep tissue massages are used to break up scar tissue and break down muscle adhesions (the “knots” that we feel in our muscles are muscle adhesions, which are bands of rigid and painful muscle tissue). These knots can inhibit our circulation and cause pain and inflammation.

When the massage begins, your massage therapist usually starts with lighter pressure to warm up your muscles and then works into deeper pressure.

The common techniques used in deep tissue massage therapy include stripping, which is deep pressure that glides along the length of your muscle fibres and friction, which applies pressure across the grain of your muscle to break up adhesions and align tissue fibres.

BENEFITS OF DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

STRESS RELIEF – Deep tissue massage is a great stress reliever. Whether you are experiencing stress at home or at work, getting a massage is a great way to unplug and relax for an extended period of time.

A massage can help lower cortisol levels and increase levels of oxytocin, which is a hormone that relaxes the body and produces soothing effects.

It can also help with physical symptoms of stress, such as tight muscles and shoulders and tension headaches. A deep tissue massage can address these issues and help your body relax.

REDUCES PAIN – There are a number of conditions that deep tissue massage therapy can treat. Chronic pain in the lower back, plantar fasciitis, fibromyalgia, and stiff necks can all be treated with massage therapy.

Muscle tension that usually occurs with chronic pain can also be lessened with deep tissue massage, as it can loosen the tight tissue clusters causing pain.

Research has reported that deep tissue massage is more effective for relieving chronic pain than medication or other medical treatments, and is usually more cost-effective as well.

LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE AND HEART RATE – Deep tissue massage reduces stress and tension, which impacts blood pressure. Massage has positive impacts on systolic, diastolic, and arterial blood pressure. The massage can also increase production of serotonin, which promotes good feelings and happiness.

BREAKS UP TISSUE & MAKES MOVEMENT EASIER – In areas where people have scar tissue, they often report chronic pain and stiffness. Getting regular deep tissue massages can help break up this scar tissue by improving lymphatic circulation and drainage to improve flexibility and range of motion in the area of the scar tissue.

Many people who are recovering from surgery are often encouraged to get deep tissue massages to minimize scar tissue.

REDUCES ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS – Deep tissue massage therapy can be used to treat many different symptoms of arthritis, like pain, stiffness, limited range of motion in joints, and sleep issues.

Moderate pressure can reduce arthritis pain and ease tension, making it easier for those with arthritis to move around. It can also help with sleep issues by alleviating pain that may keep arthritis patients awake at night.

REHABILITATES INJURED MUSCLES – If you have injured muscles, a deep tissue massage can help stretch tight or twisted muscles and can also facilitate the movement of toxins from your muscles.

Deep tissue massage therapy is used frequently to treat sports-related injuries. Many athletes are incorporating deep tissue massage into their recovery protocols, as they can help delay the onset of muscle soreness, help with muscle fatigue, and prevent injuries.

CUPPING
The cups currently used are plastic. A vacuum is created in the cups, then placed on your body, where the skin, fascia, and connective tissue are drawn into the cup. This suction draws blood flow to the area while creating space between all the layers of your body. Cupping can also help to regulate and balance the body.

One way to think about cupping is that it is the inverse of massage. Rather than applying pressure to muscles, the suction uses pressure to pull skin, tissue and muscles upward. Static cupping is performed by leaving the suction cups stationary to release adhesions. This type of cupping is more likely to leave cupping marks on the clients skin. Dynamic cupping is the application and continuous gliding of the cup over the muscles. Dynamic cupping not only feels amazing , reducing pain and tension but also leaves behind little to no cupping marks as compared to static cupping. It is a favourite of many clients!

BENEFITS OF STATIC AND DYNAMIC CUPPING THERAPY

STIMULATES LYMPHATIC CIRCULATION – The lymphatic system is the body’s natural drainage system that flushes out toxins and removes accumulated waste. This massage treatment stimulates the flow and circulation of lymph, which will prevent excess toxins from accumulating in the affected area.

ENCOURAGES BLOOD FLOW – The suction and gliding action of the cups stimulates an increase of blood flow to sore or pain-riddled muscles. This increases the supply of oxygen to those muscles, carrying essential nutrients that can nourish and repair damaged tissue.

STRETCHES OUT THE MUSCLES – The “vacuum effect” of this treatment can stretch out the muscles, decompressing them by smoothing out knots and relieving stiffness. The action of gliding the cup across the affected area can also stretch out the connective tissue (a.k.a. fascia), reducing overall tension.

REDUCES STAGNATION – Tight, tense muscles produce stagnation, which means that blood flow is hindered and the lymphatic system has a difficult time flushing out accumulated waste. When this happens, it’s easy for nerves or blood vessels to become impinged, often producing numbness or tingling in the hands and/or feet. This tension-busting treatment can eliminate stagnation and bring relief to compressed areas.

GRASTON – AKA “SCRAPING”
Graston® Technique is an instrument-assisted soft tissue technique designed to break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions in the body. Specially designed stainless steel tools are used to detect and remove areas of soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation in order to reduce overall treatment times, improve recovery and rehabilitation, and resolve chronic conditions once thought to be permanent.

Scar tissue is tissue that has healed in a haphazard pattern as a result of damage to normal tissue. Scar tissue can adhere to fascia (a thin layer of tissue that weaves between every organ, muscle, and tendon in the body), muscles, tendons, and ligaments, impairing function (e.g. restricted range of motion) and producing pain.

Graston® Technique works to break up scar tissue so that it can be absorbed by the body. Uniquely shaped stainless steel instruments are used to comb over and “catch” areas of fibrotic or scarred tissue. As the instruments glide over adhesions, the patient and practitioner will identify a feeling of ‘going over a speed bump’ or a ‘gravel-like grittiness’. It is common to experience discomfort during treatment and minor bruising afterwards; these are normal responses and part of the healing process. The treatment is not debilitating and patients can continue their daily activities throughout the course of treatment.

BENEFITS OF GRASTON TECHNIQUE®

– OVERALL DECREASED TREATMENT TIME .

– INCREASED SPECIFICITY OF TISSUE TREATMENT AND INCREASED MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE OVER HANDS-ON MASSAGE TECHNIQUES.

– QUICKER AND IMPROVED OUTCOMES.

– ALLOWS THE CLIENT TO FEEL ABNORMAL TISSUE TEXTURE AS THE INTEGRAL CLINICIAN DOES.

– FASTER RETURN TO FUNCTION AND RETURN TO SPORT.

– IMPROVED SURGICAL OUTCOMES VIA MANAGEMENT OF SCAR TISSUE.
